NEPHIHAH Lehite PN & GN 1. Chief judge, 1st c. BC (Alma 4:17; Alma 50:37) 2. City and land, perhaps named from No. 1, 1st c. BC (Alma 50:14; 62:30) 3. Plains, ca. 61 BC (Alma 62:18) This is one of several suffixed names in the Book of Mormon (see also e.g., Cumeni/Cumenihah, Mathoni/Mathonihah, Moroni/Moronihah). For Nephi, see above. For the suffix -hah see the introduction. Reynolds, Story of the Book of Mormon, p. 299, based on reading -ihah as the theophoric element and neph as coming from some root meaning “consolation,” translates “Jehovah’s consolation.” Cf.
