Etymology

This is one of several suffixed names in the Book of Mormon (see also e.g., CUMENI/CUMENIHAH, MATHONI/MATHONIHAH, MORONI/MORONIHAH). For NEPHI, see above. For the suffix -hah see the introduction.

Reynolds, Story of the Book of Mormon, p. 299, based on reading -ihah as the theophoric element and neph as coming from some root meaning β€œconsolation,” translates β€œJehovah’s consolation.”

Cf. Book of Mormon NEPHI, LEHINEPHI, AHAH
