: Discussion: For the first occurrence of the name in O Cowdery first wrote ''shiblum'', then ''shillum'' by overwriting the ''b'' with an ''l'', then ''shilum'' by crossing out the overwritten ''l''. Since Oliver would not have known how many <i>l</i>'s ''shilum'' has, Joseph Smith must have spelled it out for him. The second occurrence in verse 17 shows no variation in either O or P, ''shilum''; but when the 1830 compositor set the name, he erroneously spelled it as ''shiblum'' in verses 16 and 17, probably because of ''shiblon'' in verses 15 and 16. | |||

- Discussion: For the first occurrence of the name in O Cowdery first wrote shiblum, then shillum by overwriting the b with an l, then shilum by crossing out the overwritten l.
