Biblical GN 1. An ancient Near Eastern nation (2 Nephi 17:1, 2, 4, 5, 8 = Isaiah 7:1, 2, 4, 5, 8)

Etymology

SYRIA ארם (comprising roughly the western half of present-day SYRIA) is the name of an ancient Near Eastern nation mentioned five times in the ISAIAH section of the Book of Mormon but not otherwise mentioned as a separate PN or GN in the Book of Mormon. ("SYRIA" is generally the KJV equivalent of the HEBREW ארם ʼărām). This name is not to be confused with ASSYRIA, which appears 8 times in the ISAIAH sections of 2 Nephi in the Book of Mormon, whose heartland was in the northern and eastern areas of Mesopotamia.
