Lehite PN 1. Apostle, ca. 30 AD (3 Nephi 19:4)

Perhaps Hebrew *šemnōn from Hebrew šemen, “oil” (JAT), with the ending ōn, for example, as on the PN Gideon. Compare also from the same root the biblical PN Mishmannah “fat, stout, lusty, fertile” (1 Chronicles 12:11) (JH).
