Lehite PN 1. Son of MOSIAH ca. 100 BC (Mosiah 27:34; Alma 22:35; 23:1; 25:17; 27:19; 31:6, 32)
Lehite GN 2. NEPHITE city (Alma 51:26)

Etymology

Given the English pronunciation of the Book of Mormon PN OMNER as “ahm-ner”, (where with the initial vowel is pronounced as the /a/ in watch; as ɒmnɛr in the 1869 Deseret Alphabet; amner in SBL transliteration; IPA = ͻmnɛr), Omner might be composed of Hebrew עם ʿam from ‘mm “people, kinsman”, and Hebrew נר nēr “light”, as in Abner “Father-is-Light.” Omner could then mean, approximately, “The (Divine) Kinsman is Light” (JH).

Variants
