OMNER Lehite PN & GN 1. Son of Mosiah No. 2, missionary, ca. 91 BC (Mosiah 27:34; Alma 31:32) 2. City, perhaps named from No. 1 (Alma 51:26) The name resembles biblical PNs with the element nēr, e.g., Abner, “the [divine] father is light” (see standard biblical commentaries for other examples). Omner could mean “the [divine] kinsman is light” (JH), from ʿmm, “people, kinsman.” In the singular, “people, kinsman,” in Hebrew is ʿam. The GN probably was taken from the PN. Cf.
