Biblical PN 1. KJV NAPHTALI (2 Nephi 19:1 = Isaiah 9:1)

Etymology

The PN NAPHTALI refers to a figure in the Isaiah portion of the Book of Mormon and does not refer to a separate PN or GN in the Book of Mormon. The PN NAPHTALI may be from the Hebrew naptālî “My wrestling,” and is a niphal form of ptl “to twist, to wrestle,” in a popular etymology based on competition between Rachel and Leah (Genesis 30:8).[1]

Variants

Deseret Alphabet: 𐐤𐐈𐐙𐐓𐐁𐐢𐐌 (næfteɪlaɪ)
