Biblical PN (NT) 1. Mother of JESUS mentioned in Mosiah 3:8; Alma 7:10

Etymology

MARY is mentioned as the mother of JESUS in Mosiah 3:8 and Alma 7:10 but is not mentioned as a separate PN or GN in the Book of Mormon. The name MARY may be based on the KJV New Testament name of the mother of JESUS. MARY is originally from the HEBREW miryam, having the possible meanings "beloved" or "gift (of God)" (HALOT),[1] realized in Greek as Mariam, Maria and in the Latin Vulgate as Mariam, Maria.

Variants

Deseret Alphabet: 𐐣𐐁𐐡𐐆 (meɪrɪ)
