LIMHI

Lehite PN King of LehiNephi, son of Noah, 4th c. BC (Mosiah 7:9; Ether 15:33)

The element lim (see Limhah) may be present in this name. However, more likely is an etymology based on a root *lmh or *lmḥ in the same form as Lehi, Nephi, Zimri,
Omni, etc.

Less likely is an etymology based on lmk such as the biblical PN Lamech. It is true that in Masoretic Hebrew the k was probably spirantized and thus pronounced like the
h in the English word “hue.” But in this Book of Mormon name the Masoretic rules of pronunciation, if they apply to Book of Mormon Lehite, would require rather the
pronunciation [k]. A gentilic from a root lmh has been suggested (JAT).
