Biblical GN 1. LAISH (2 Nephi 20:30)

Hebrew PN & GN layiš “Lion” ([Judges 18:7], [1 Samuel 25:44]), also known as lešem ([Joshua 19:47], possibly with (1) a name-formative in -ām or -ān, or (2) enclitic mem,[1] or (3) case ending as in cognate Akkadian nēšum[2] ); cf. GN layišâ, “Lioness” (north of JERUSALEM), and lwš (ketib at [2 Samuel 3:15]) = Israelite GN DAN.
