Etymology

KJV JOHN, Johanan, Jehohanan all = Hebrew yĕhôḥānān, yôḥānān "Yahweh is gracious, Yahweh has been gracious, Yahweh has given grace,[1] Yahweh has favored, shown favor to,"[2] (2 Kings 25:23; 1 Chronicles 3:15; 6:1-15 [MT 5:27-41]; 12:4-5, 12-13; 26:3; 2 Chronicles 28:12; Jeremiah 40:7-8; Elephantine Papyri CAP 30.18; 31.17) = NT Greek ioanan, iōannēs.[3]

Although JOHN the Baptist is not named in the Book of Mormon, he is referenced in 1 Nephi 10:7-10 and 2 Nephi 31:4-8. For Old Testament references see Isaiah 40:3 and Malachi 3:1. For New Testament references see Luke 1:5-25 and 7:24-29.
