Biblical gentilic The inhabitants of Israel (Helaman 8:11)
'''Etymology'''

Gentilic of Israel
'''ISRAELITE''' is the gentilic of [[ISRAEL|ISRAEL]]. The singular never occurs in the Book of Mormon, and the plural, '''ISRAELITES''', only this once. Wherever the King James Bible has ''Israelites'', that is the plural, the Masoretic text of the Old Testament has simply ''yiśrāʾēl'', i.e., no plural, no gentilic, etc. For example see [https://www.lds.org/scriptures/ot/josh/3.17?lang=eng#16 Joshua 3:17].

For the etymology see the standard biblical commentaries.
