Discussion: For the first occurrence, spacing between extant fragments of O supports the longer spelling, Gaddianton. The line below it lines up to 14 characters with the missing name and its following space. If it had not been Gaddianton, or Cowdery had crossed out one of the d's, why would he forget the spelling a few verses later? In

the Book of Mormon, we find examples of both single and double-d spellings with gad or gid, as in Gadiandi and Giddianhi.

Summary: Skousen accepts Gaddianton, in accordance with the two extant readings in O, and the spacing in O for the first occurrence
