Etymology

Perhaps the name comes from the EGYPTIAN gmgm, β€œsmash, tear up, break trees,” and nw, β€œcity,” to be compared with the city kipkip/kibkib (Coptic gibgib), β€œhacked up, destroyed” (RFS). Nibley mentions the EGYPTIAN city kenkeme.[1]
