Lehite PN 1. NEPHITE warrior (Moroni 9:2) P MS EMER, but EMRON Pc 1830-1981

Etymology

The Lehite PN EMRON may derive from the HEBREW אמר ʾāmar "to speak."[1](J. Tvedtnes). If so, it may be a hypocoristic (i.e., short-form) with the HEBREW (and common Semitic) ending -ōn of PNs (and GNs). Thus, EMRON could mean "Word (of God/Lord); (God/Lord) is commander/the spokesman" (PYH); cf. biblical HEBREW ʾimrô "his command" (Job 20:29). The HEBREW PN Imri (1 Chronicles 9:4) comes from this root word (JH).

It is also possible that EMRON may derive from the same root as the biblical Hebrew PN Omri (1 Kings 16:16 passim), ʿomrî. Unfortunately, the "meaning of the personal name [Omri] is not known,"[2] though suggestions have been made. For example, Omri may be related to the Amorite PN element ḫamru which may mean "live long, thrive," or "sacred precint."[3] Also, Omri may be hypocoristic for hypothetical *ʿomrîyyāhû "Yahweh is my life/(the) life, which Yahweh (has given)."[4]

Emron may also possibly from the HEBREW gentilic אמרי ʾēmôrî "Amorite" (Genesis 10:16; Ezekiel 16:3, 45; Amos 2:9, 10).
