Etymology

Possibly same as Sumerian PN KURUM, 4th dynasty king of Uruk (Erech), ca. 2145 B.C., likely from KÚRUM₇, GÚ-RU-UM, KUR₇, KURU₇ “judge; inspect; decide, pass sentence; lookout, spy” (= Akkadian pa-qá-du-um). Possibly related to Sumerian gurum₂, gurum_x (IGI.GAR) "inspection; provisions," and gurum₂-ak (kurum₇-ak) “inspection, check” (= Akkadian piqittu).
