Nephite PN 1. Soldier, late 4th c. AD (Moroni 9:7)

Etymology

AMORON is most likely a late variant of the earlier AMARON or AMMORON. See the same for a discussion of the etymology.

It is possible that the name is A-Moron, "he of MORON." An attested Maya name pattern is aj + geographic location, "he of" geographic location.[1]

It is unlikely that the a vowel is a prosthetic aleph (RFS) because there is no consonant cluster to force a helping vowel.

CF. Book of Mormon AMARON, AMMARON, AMMORON, MORON, MORONI, MORONIHAH, et al.
