Etymology
SYRIA (comprising roughly the western half of present-day SYRIA) is the name of an ancient Near Eastern nation mentioned five times in the ISAIAH section of the Book of Mormon but not otherwise mentioned as a separate PN or GN in the Book of Mormon. ("SYRIA" is generally the KJV equivalent of the HEBREW aram). This name is not to be confused with ASSYRIA, which appears 8 times in the ISAIAH sections of 2 Nephi in the Book of Mormon, whose heartland was in the northern and eastern areas of Mesopotamia.
