Biblical GN | 1. | Ancient city that was destroyed (2 Nephi 23:19 = Isaiah 13:19) |
Etymology
The GN GOMORRAH refers to an ancient city south of the Dead Sea that, along with Sodom, was destroyed by God. It occurs in the ISAIAH section of 2 Nephi with reference to the biblical city but does not refer to a separate Book of Mormon GN or PN.
Hebrew ˁămōrâ “Flooded-place; Indentation”[1] > LXX Greek Gomorra (Genesis 14:2-11), thus indicating an original initial -ģ.
Variants
Deseret Alphabet: 𐐘𐐄𐐣𐐉𐐡𐐂 (ɡoʊmɒrɑː)
