Jaredite PN Rebel leader (Ether 13:23; Ether 14:8)

No etymology is suggested.

If Semitic languages can be appealed to for derivations of Jaredite names, Ugaritic šrd, “to present (an offering), bring down from God,” probably a Š-stem “causative” from the root yrd, “to descend” (RFS).

Confer also the Ebla cityname *šeraduki (Pettinato, Archives) (JAT).
