Jaredite GN/Lehite GN | 1. JAREDITE/Lehite city (3 Nephi 9:6; Mormon 6:14; Ether 13:27, 29, 30) |
Etymology
GILGAL is a JAREDITE/Lehite city mentioned five times in the Book of Mormon. Though Semitic etymologies for this name (mentioned about forty times in the Old Testament) are uncertain, cf. Hebrew gilgΔl, "stone circle; wheel," from the Hebrew verbal root gΔlal "roll (stone) to, roll (stone) away"; cf. Ugaritic PN bn glgl.
