If an appeal to biblical Hebrew can be made to provide etymologies for JAREDITE names, compare the biblical PN *Jakim/Jaqim. Also possible would be Hebrew yaqûm, “he shall arise,” e.g., the PN yqmyhw on a 7th c. BC ostracon from Arad (IDAM no. 67–992) (JAT). See also Shmuel Ahituv, Echoes from the Past, Arad ostracon 39:1, yәqamyāhû. Reynolds, Commentary on the Book of Mormon, VI, p. 116, already made a similar suggestion.
