Biblical GN 1. A great Near Eastern empire (2 Nephi 17:17, 18, 20 = Isaiah 7:17, 18, 20; 2 Nephi 18:4, 7 = Isaiah 8:4, 7; 2 Nephi 20:12 = Isaiah 10:12; 2 Nephi 21:11, 16 = Isaiah 11:11, 16)

Etymology

ASSYRIA is the name of an ancient Near Eastern land located in Mesopotamia. It occurs in the ISAIAH section of the 2 Nephi with reference to the biblical land but does not refer to a separate Book of Mormon GN or PN. The GN ASSYRIA may derive from one of their capitals, Assur, itself probably taken from their national god, Assur.

Variants

Deseret Alphabet: 𐐈𐐝𐐆𐐡𐐆𐐂 (æsɪrɪɑː)
