Discussion: Cowdery first wrote shiblum, then shillum, then shilum in O for the first occurrence. Since Oliver would not have known how many <i>l</i>'s shilum has, Joseph Smith must have spelled it out for him. The second occurrence shows no correction, but when the 1830 compositor set the name, he spelled it as shiblum, probably because of shiblon.
Discussion: For the first occurrence of the name in O Cowdery first wrote ''shiblum'', then ''shillum'' by overwriting the ''b'' with an ''l'', then ''shilum'' by crossing out the overwritten ''l''. Since Oliver would not have known how many <i>l</i>'s ''shilum'' has, Joseph Smith must have spelled it out for him. The second occurrence in verse 17 shows no variation in either O or P, ''shilum''; but when the 1830 compositor set the name, he erroneously spelled it as ''shiblum'' in verses 16 and 17, probably because of ''shiblon'' in verses 15 and 16.

Discussion: For the first occurrence of the name in O Cowdery first wrote shiblum, then shillum by overwriting the b with an l, then shilum by crossing out the overwritten l. Since Oliver would not have known how many l's shilum has, Joseph Smith must have spelled it out for him. The second occurrence in verse 17 shows no variation in either O or P, shilum; but when the 1830 compositor set the name, he erroneously spelled it as shiblum in verses 16 and 17, probably because of shiblon in verses 15 and 16.

Summary: Skousen accepts shilum.
