Variant Spelling of ONIDAH

Oneidah

Alma 47:5a
O, P: Oneidah
1830-1981: Onidah
Alma 47:5b
O, P: Oneidah
1830-1981: Onidah

Discussion: Both occurrences in Alma 47:5 have the spelling Oneidah in O and P; the 1830 compositor set the name as Onidah, perhaps based on an incorrect spelling for the Iroquois tribe. The hill in Alma 32:4 and the place of arms in Alma 47:5 are distinct.

Summary: Skousen accepts Onidah for Alma 32:4, and Oneidah for the two occurrences in Alma 47:5.
