Until a possible language origin for J<small>AREDITE</small> can be determined, all suggestions for etymologies of J<small>AREDITE</small> names must remain more speculative than substantive.
Possibly same as Sumerian PN KURUM, 4th dynasty king of Uruk (Erech), ca. 2145 B.C., likely from KÚRUM7, GÚ-RU-UM, KUR7, KURU7 “judge; inspect; decide, pass sentence; lookout, spy” (= Akkadian pa-qá-du-um). Possibly related to Sumerian gurum2, gurumx (IGI.GAR) "inspection; provisions," and gurum2-ak (kurum7-ak) “inspection, check” (= Akkadian piqittu).

No etymology is suggested.

If Sumerian can provide J<small>AREDITE</small> patterns, then perhaps the Sumerian PN kurum, king of Uruk (biblical Erech) Dynasty 4 might be a parallel (RFS). Sumerian kur means
mountain.

Cf. Akkadian kurum III, “Ein Stück von Stemme” or Sumerian kurum, kur, “cut, divide, judge, pass sentence” and kur, “great, mountain, land” which appears in the name
of the pilot of the ark in the Mesopotamian flood story, kurgal (RFS).

Etymology

Possibly same as Sumerian PN KURUM, 4th dynasty king of Uruk (Erech), ca. 2145 B.C., likely from KÚRUM7, GÚ-RU-UM, KUR7, KURU7 “judge; inspect; decide, pass sentence; lookout, spy” (= Akkadian pa-qá-du-um). Possibly related to Sumerian gurum2, gurumx (IGI.GAR) "inspection; provisions," and gurum2-ak (kurum7-ak) “inspection, check” (= Akkadian piqittu).[1]
