Etymology

MARY is mentioned as the mother of JESUS in Mosiah 3:8 and Alma 7:10 but is not mentioned as a separate PN or GN in the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon form MARY is no doubt based on the KJV New Testament name of the mother of JESUS. MARY is originally from the HEBREW miryam, having the possible meanings "beloved" or "gift (of God)" (HALOT),[1] realized in Greek as Mariam, Maria and in the Latin Vulgate as Mariam, Maria.
