Variant spelling of ABINADI

Mosiah 26:15

  • P: Aminadi > NULL
  • 1830-1981: Abinadi
  • Discussion: Scribe 2 wrote Aminadi but immediately caught his error and changed it to Abinadi in P. It was the first time that Scribe 2 had to write Abinadi, so a mistake is not surprising.

Alma 5:11

  • P: Abinedi
  • 1830-1981: Abinadi
  • Discussion: Scribe 2 wrote the name as Abinedi in P. It may have read the same in O, and "could have occurred if Joseph Smith pronounced the word with stress on the second syllable so that the third vowel would have been the unstressed schwa vowel" (ATV 3:1485).

Source: ATV 3:1485.

The 37 other occurrences all read Abinadi in P: Mosiah 11:20, 26, 27 (2x), 28, 29; 12:1 (2x), 8, 17, 25, 33, 37; 13:5, 25; 15:1; 16:1; 17:1, 2 (3x), 4, 5, 7, 9, 20; 18:1; 20:21; 21:30 (2x); 24:5, 9; Alma 25:9, 11; Mormon 1:19 (37 times total)
