Lehite PN | 1. | Rebel king, leader of the king-men, ca. 63 BC (Alma 62:6, 7, 8, 9 (x2)) |
Etymology
Likely Egyptian PN PЗ-KЗš “He-of-Kush, The-Kushite; The-Black-one."[1]
Nibley has suggested EGYPTIAN p3-ḥsy, “he DN is praised” (LID, 28). PACHUS is much less likely to have anything to do with the EGYPTIAN PN hes or khesi, “praised” (HWN).
Even less likely is a corruption of the Meroitic PN “Pakazi” (SC, p. 194). A long shot is perhaps EGYPTIAN pr kš, “house of Cush” (RFS, Egyptianisms, p. 6).
Cf. Book of Mormon PAANCHI, PAHORAN, PAGAG (?)
Variants
Deseret Alphabet: 𐐑𐐈𐐗𐐊𐐝 (pækʌs)
