No etymology is suggested.
It is doubtful that the biblical PNs Maachah and Maacah (though the spelling is different in English, in Hebrew they are the same, maΚΏakΔh) because the βainβ of the Hebrew would not simply assimilate or altogether disappear. In addition, all the people with this name are female, where gender can be determined (JAT).
