Lehite GN | 1. | City which sank into the sea, ca. 30 AD (3 Nephi 9:7) |
Etymology
Cf. Hebrew maqΕm, βplace, station, town, villageβ = Arabic maqΔm, also known from Syriac, Ethiopic and Phoenician with the same meaning; however the vowel shift is rather dramatic (RFS, JAT, JH).
Perhaps from Mayan mo'-k'u'-um "macaw nest" (MW, JG).[1]
Cf. Book of Mormon JACOM, CUMORAH, CUMENI, CUMENIHAH, KUMEN, KISHKUMEN, et al.
