Biblical PN (NT) 1. Apostle of JESUS CHRIST (1 Nephi 14:27; 2 Nephi 28:6; Ether 4:16)

Etymology

JOHN is the PN of an apostle of CHRIST mentioned in the Book of Mormon of a biblical figure but not mentioned as a separate PN or GN in the Book of Mormon. This PN si originally from the Hebrew johannan, "the Lord has favored, shown favor (to)" (HALOT), and realized in the Greek Septuagint as Io(ch)anan as well as Ionan, Ioachas; in the NT it is given as Ioanan, but mostly as Ioannes (HALOT).
