The word HOSANNA is an exclamation of praise or adoration of God or the MESSIAH. It originates with the Hebrew phrase hôšîʿâ-nāʾ (imperative plus percative particle) meaning "save, now," mentioned in the Psalms (cf. Psalms 118:25). It is also found in scripture twelve times in scripture outside of the Old Testament: five times in the New Testament (Matthew 21:9, 15; Mark 11:9, 10; John 12:13), four times in the Doctrine and Covenants (Doctrine and Covenants 19:37; 36:3; 39:19; 109:79), and three times in the Book of Mormon.
