MESSIAH is a Hebrew word that may be translated as "anointed one." In the Book of Mormon it refers to the future mortal JESUS CHRIST (2 Nephi 25:19), a descendant of the tribe of JUDAH (2 Nephi 3:5), or the "Savior" (1 Nephi 10:4) or "Redeemer of the world." (1 Nephi 10:5; cf. 1 Nephi 1:19).
