Biblical GN 1. An ancient Near Eastern city (2 Nephi 13:9; = Isaiah 3:9; 2 Nephi 23:19 = Isaiah 13:19)

Etymology

SODOM סדום is the name of an ancient city mentioned in the ISAIAH section of the Book of Mormon but not mentioned as a separate PN or GN in the Book of Mormon.

Hebrew סדום sĕdôm perhaps meaning “field; burning; enclosure,” is one of a pentapolis of cities (Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim, Bela/Zoar) located in the Vale of Siddim (שדים Śiddîm) “Vale of bitumen/tar-pits; Vale of demons” (Genesis 14:10), alongside the Dead Sea.[1] Siddim is better interpreted as “Furrows” (1QapGen Aramaic sdyʼ, Syriac sadā, sedā, Ugaritic šd, Akkadian šiddu, šadādu).[2]

See GOMORRAH, SIDOM.
